Hurricane Dolly and injured baby dolphin
We survived Hurricane Dolly. She had a mind of her own and found a way to gain strength before giving up to the forces of tierra firma. We had the eye wall for hours pound us and Dolly did damage. Here are a few photos I have taken recently. The teddy bear was lying alone outside as we drove around looking at the damage. I just felt this photo summed up just how everyone is feeling right now. We saw two shrimp boats that sailed off like ghost ships in the storm. They ended up under the Queen Isabella Causeway. The photos of the baby dolphin with the massive injury on its head and dorsal fin were taken before the storm. This baby may survive but must be in terrible pain. Perhaps the injury came from a gill net incidence or it was struck by a boat. We are not sure. I have not seen the baby and his mother since the storm. The cow we found stuck in the mud before the storm. She was drowning and we put her head up on a bucket. The owners were located but could not get her out. She could not be saved. The sealife center sign blew down and did some major damage to part of the roof but we are opening tomorrow. We are glad Dolly decided to move on when she did. We took a beating but nothing time and new construction won't fix. We had a generator going at the center to keep all the sealife safe.
